Places to Go

This this is not exhaustive but highlights some of the places we have been and enjoyed our time there.

National Maritime Museum, Falmouth

Have a day out in Falmouth around your visit to the Museum. Restaurants inside are busy so either take a packed lunch or find somewhere in Falmouth.

Minack Theatre

You won’t believe it until you see it. It’s like a Roman amphitheatre in the most stunning location looking over the Atlantic Ocean. It is the life work of one woman. If you are lucky enough to get tickets and the weather gods are kind you can enjoy performances here. You can just go along and pay to look around and make it part of a day out in the Porthcurno area.

Godrevy Point

A huge beach and a climb up to the top of the cliffs which is a favourite location for lots of seals. Also here is the Godrevy Lighthouse.

The National Trust

Have a look at their website for locations in west Cornwall; St. Michael’s Mount, Trelissick Gardens and Glendurgan Gardens to name a few.

English Heritage

Visit Pendennis Castle if you are out and about in Falmouth. If you are super organised book tickets for Tintagel Castle on the way down or when returning home. These are timed tickets due to popularity now the new bridge is open.

Flambards

A short drive away near Helston, indoor and outdoor amusements and a great day out.

Geevor Tin Mine

We had a great day out here even though the rain and wind was biblical! You get an informative tour and explanation of how it was mined.

Children get to pan for ‘gems’ in troughs of water while waiting to be taken into the actual mine. You do need to be fairly mobile to navigate your way through small and low gaps in the mine. A coverall and safety hat are provided and are needed!

There is an amazing view off the coast when you are not down the mine.

Porthleven

Spend a day crabbing, jumping off the harbour wall (not for the faint-hearted) and mooching about. Walk out of the town to Loe Bar and National Trust Penrose.

Coverack

Coverack is a very pretty village with a sandy beach at low tide and a little harbour. The water is super clear and great for crabbing or exploring.

We enjoyed a really good meal at The Paris Inn perched on the headland looking out to sea.

There are lots of walks you can enjoy using this as a base.
