The Net Loft

a family hideaway in the middle of Marazion

Our 3 bedroom apartment occupies the upper floor of a large end of terrace property on the southern seaward facing side of Fore Street.

Half of the ground floor is also ours and our garage is where an old shop front used to be.

The building seems to have had many guises over the years, a grocery store and previously a net loft. The over-sized sash in one of the first floor bedrooms replaced double doors which opened to allow a pulley system to swing out and haul nets up from Praeds Lane.

a warm welcome

Access is through from the garage or take a few paces down the side of the building on Praeds Lane and you’ll find our cobalt blue front door. Here you will find the key safe and useful hooks for hanging up wetsuits and a hosepipe to wash off sandy feet.

Once you in through the front door or garage both lead onto an entrance corridor with coat hooks, an area to pile up shoes and the inner door.

the apartment

You will notice that under the stairs is a washing machine. Make your way up the stairs and you will start to notice the ‘tardis’ effect. Nearly all rooms are vaulted reaching 5m at the ridge of the roof adding to the sense of space and light.

Watch out for some height differences with steps up into the kitchen and bathroom area and steps down into the living room.

Stunning ocean views overlooking the bay and St. Michael’s mount are visible for almost every room. Throw open the windows and listen to the waves and seagulls.

kitchen and dining area

The kitchen makes the most of the valuted ceiling and the stunning views from the dining area and looking through into the living room.

All appliances including fridge freezer, oven, induction hob, dishwasher and microwave are integral. Whilst compact and bijou there is plenty of storage and space to cook for a large number.

There is space for 8 people around the dining table. Expect squabbling about who gets to look out of the window.

living room

Yes the carpet and sofa are pale and impractical but they are super comfy.

Prime location is the corner of the sofa where you can stretch out and see a huge panorama of the bay including Saint Michael’s Mount. Watch the sun go down and see the lights turn on at the Mount.

Another squabble factor is the large pink snuggle armchair facing the window, particularly good for reading on stormy days and watching the drama of the weather.

A flat screen TV is fitted with ROKu so there should be plenty of entertainment available.

the green room

Calm and comfortable with a huge superking bed. There is a dressing table, two mirrors and plenty of space for luggage.

You walk to the doorway of this room and immediately see through the glazed wall and out of the kitchen window to the sea.

the blue room

This is our favourite. Beautiful and quirky, a superking bed and two windows. One of which is floor to ceiling. Sit in bed with a cup of tea watching the world go by.

Notes of caution – watch out for the double decker buses that go by – they get a great view into the bedroom if they pause for traffic…

– and the old pulley system does rotate, choose what suits you best and remember that it is there, we do clonk our heads from time to time.

the bunk room

Well what can you say? It is a riot of colour and fun. A triple bunk has suited us brilliantly for our three boys.

The best bit? From the top bunk climb onto a platform built into the vaulted ceiling. Hang out watching telly chilling out on cushions. This allows grown ups to claim the living room and small people can hide themselves away.

It’s an amazing room and whilst we’ve done everything we can to keep the boys safe there are limitations on very small children staying in here. We know from experience what determined climbers some tiny people can be – not so good at getting down though.

the bathrooms

Newly fitted and very comfortable. We have a large bathroom with luxury traditional fittings, illuminated and heated mirror, and a generous bath with a shower over.

We converted what was a storage cupboard into a swish shower room with loo, sink and large walk in shower. Having this second bathroom is brilliant when coming in from swimming or a long walk.
